Allies On The Path

Allies

Totems are spiritual allies and guides in our waking life, extending the reach of our eyes and ears, coming to our aid when we are in need of their gifts.  They may come and go throughout the course of our life, but they are never really gone.

Raven is one of my Totems.

I have been blessed to have many affirmations of my work from Ravens.  While placing offerings it had become so commonplace for a Raven to call that I began to take it for granted. I created a journal of their affirmations that I would not forget or neglect to acknowledge their blessings.  The entries, over a few years, number nearly one hundred.

I have heard their call directly behind me, only to turn and see no one there.  They have flown directly overhead, piercing me with their shadows as I played the flute.  They celebrate the arrival of Spring’s first blue by soaring over the sacred spaces I attend, and as a group they have gathered to warn me of danger.  They have been harbingers of the arrival of dark energy, and heralds of insight and learning.  They call in the morning with the waking light, and have guided me on journeys.

When we are open to our teachers we can expect their lessons to come in many forms.  There are many legends across cultures of the exotic powers of Raven, and the company they keep.
Raven is linked to rebirth, self-reflection and introspection.  Raven honors the ancestors, finding light in darkness.  Raven has connection to divination, to greater sight and consciousness.  And Raven is an eloquent emissary of renewal.

In all cases, Raven remains our peer, a venerable and redoubtable ally.
They have been a great blessing to me in my walk.
