Watercolor and Ink Wash

This series of paintings was created after I had experienced a connection with Water, feeling guided, as if my hand was just the vehicle for the work. Temple III seems to show the Dragon, the energy of the Earth, moving in the mantle. I wasn’t aware of its presence until someone else pointed it out to me. The pieces were scanned and finished digitally.

Signet

The following SoundCloud link features the Japanese five-hole shakuhachi flute.  This melody is the signature with which I enter into sacred spaces.  The piece is inspired by Charles Ives’ “The Unanswered Question”. Comprised of a theme stated in minor pentatonic on the first entry, its statement is met with silence and then repeated, transitioning to major diatonic, as if answered with another question.

The theme is meant to mirror the path of the seeker, often as one searching in the dark, unaware all answers are within reach.

Such is the experience of sacred spaces and our awakening.

 Questions and Answers

The following video is a collection of blind Questions and Answers accompanied by paintings, a practice of writing a question on a piece of paper and folding it away to be revisited another day. After there were several questions on one day I would return with them hidden away in my pocket on another outing, and drawing one out randomly, without reading it first, I would seek a reply in the moments of the walking meditation. Sometimes an answer would precede its question over the two sessions.  On returning home I would open and read them.

The results were often profound, as if from another voice, from the spirits of our inner landscapes.

The 12:34 minute duration of the video is to honor my guides whose voices I hear in these sweet couplings.

Please note that the video begins slowly, the title just appearing at thirty seconds in.
